AI search visibility checker: what it can measure and what it cannot

People now ask AI assistants which tool to buy or which agency to hire. An AI search visibility checker helps you see whether your site is ready to appear in those answers. This guide explains what such a checker measures and how to act on the results.

Two kinds of visibility

Visibility in AI search has two layers. The first is whether AI systems can reach and understand your site at all. The second is whether they actually mention you when someone asks a relevant question. A good checker is clear about which layer each result describes.

Most free checkers, including ours, focus on the first layer because it can be measured precisely from your own pages. If you want the short version of that free check, our free AI visibility checker article walks through it step by step.

Signals a checker can measure reliably

  • Whether robots.txt allows AI search crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot and PerplexityBot.
  • Whether pages return a normal status code without redirect loops.
  • Whether the main text is present in the HTML that crawlers download.
  • Which structured data types exist and whether they parse.
  • Whether titles, descriptions and headings describe the page clearly.
  • Whether the site states who it serves, what it offers and how to contact it.

Each of these is a fact you can confirm by opening the page source. That is the standard we hold ourselves to on the AI visibility checker page.

Signals that need careful interpretation

Brand mentions in AI answers can be measured too, but only for specific questions asked through a specific model at a specific time. Geolytic paid plans ask your saved buyer questions through the official Gemini, OpenAI and Claude APIs. We record whether your brand appears, its position in the answer and which competitors are named. The full answer text is stored so you can read it.

What we do not claim is a live rank inside the consumer ChatGPT app. That app personalises answers, uses memory and changes often. No official source exposes it, so any number presented as your ChatGPT ranking deserves suspicion.

How to read your results

  1. Fix blocked crawlers first. A blocked page cannot be cited.
  2. Fix empty HTML next. If text only appears after scripts run, render it on the server.
  3. Add or repair structured data on your homepage and key service pages.
  4. Rewrite vague pages so each one answers a clear buyer question in its first paragraph.
  5. Only then start tracking answers over time, so you can see whether the changes help.

How often to check

Run a readiness check after any site release, template change or robots.txt edit. Answer tracking works best on a steady schedule, such as weekly, using the same questions each time. A single result tells you little. A trend across several runs tells you much more.
