GEO audit

GEO audit: is your website ready for AI search?

A GEO audit checks whether AI-powered search engines and assistants can reach, read and correctly describe your website.

What is a GEO audit?

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of making a website easy for AI systems — such as AI search results and chat assistants — to crawl, understand and cite. A GEO audit measures the signals on your own site that make this possible. It builds on technical SEO: a page search engines can't crawl is also hard for AI systems to use.

What does Geolytic's GEO audit check?

  • AI crawler access — whether your robots.txt allows or blocks crawlers such as GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended.
  • Structured data — whether pages carry schema.org JSON-LD, and whether that markup is valid.
  • Entity clarity — whether your business name, what you offer and your contact details are stated consistently and in a machine-readable way.
  • Content clarity — whether key pages have clear titles, headings and readable text that states what you do.

How is the GEO readiness score calculated?

Each of those components gets its own score, weight and evidence, and they combine into the GEO Readiness Index. Every finding links to the URL where it was observed. If a component can't be measured, it is shown as not measured instead of being filled in with an estimate. The full rules are on the methodology page.

Does a GEO audit show whether ChatGPT or Perplexity mention my brand?

No. A GEO audit measures readiness on your own website. Tracking actual mentions inside AI answers needs live provider integrations, which Geolytic does not run yet, so those results appear as Not configured. Nobody can guarantee that an AI system will cite a site.

What do I get at the end?

A GEO readiness score, an SEO score, a list of findings with the affected pages, prioritized fixes and AI recommendations written only from the evidence in your scan. You can export the full report as a PDF. GEO works alongside a technical SEO audit, which runs in the same scan.
