Free AI visibility checker: how to see if AI search can find your website
Before you spend money on AI search tools, find out whether AI systems can even read your website. A free AI visibility checker answers that in minutes. Here is what a good one checks, how to read the results and what to fix first.

What an AI visibility checker actually measures
The phrase AI visibility gets used for two very different things. Knowing which one you are looking at saves a lot of confusion.
- Readiness. Can AI crawlers reach your pages, read the content and understand who you are? This is measured on your own website and can be checked for free.
- Mentions. When someone asks an AI assistant a question in your category, does the answer name you? This needs real questions sent to AI providers and usually sits in paid plans because every check costs money to run.
A free checker should focus on readiness. If a free tool claims to show your exact ranking inside ChatGPT, be careful. AI answers change from one question and one user to the next, so there is no single ranking to show. Honest tools label anything they could not measure instead of filling the gap with a guess.
The five checks that matter most
1. AI crawler access
Your robots.txt file decides which crawlers may visit. The important AI ones are OAI-SearchBot for ChatGPT search, GPTBot for OpenAI training, Claude-SearchBot and ClaudeBot from Anthropic, PerplexityBot and the Google-Extended token for Gemini training. A checker should tell you which of these are allowed and which are blocked. Blocking a search crawler means that assistant cannot read your pages live. Our AI crawler guide explains each one.
2. Pages that load and render
A crawler that gets an error, a redirect loop or an empty page full of scripts has nothing to read. Good checkers crawl your real pages and report broken links, error codes and pages with little readable text.
3. Structured data
Schema.org markup in JSON-LD format tells machines what a page is about: your organisation, products, articles or location. A checker should list which pages have it and flag markup that fails to parse.
4. Business clarity
AI systems need to know who you are before they can recommend you. Look for checks on whether your business name, what you offer and your contact details appear clearly and consistently across pages.
5. Content clarity
Titles, headings, meta descriptions and the opening paragraph of each page are what models lean on when they summarise you. Missing titles or vague openings make you harder to quote. Our guide on how to rank in ChatGPT shows how to rewrite them.
How to run a free AI visibility check with Geolytic
- Open the free audit page and enter your website address. No card is needed.
- Geolytic crawls up to five pages, starting with your homepage and the pages it links to.
- When the scan finishes, sign up or sign in to unlock the full report.
- Read your GEO readiness score and your separate SEO score, each built only from what the crawler found.
- Open each finding to see the exact page where it was observed, then export the report as a PDF.
The free audit covers crawler access, structured data, business clarity and content clarity. You can read more about the checks on the AI visibility checker page. Anything that could not be measured shows as Not measured rather than a made up number.
How to read your results
Start with blockers
Anything that stops crawlers from reaching your site comes first. A blocked AI search crawler or a site wide error outweighs every other finding because nothing else matters if the page cannot be fetched.
Then quick wins
Missing titles, missing descriptions and absent Organization markup are usually quick to fix and help both classic search and AI search at the same time.
Then longer improvements
Rewriting key pages so they answer customer questions directly takes more time. Plan it as ongoing work and recheck after each batch of changes.
Free checker vs paid AI visibility tools
A free readiness check tells you whether you are eligible to be found. Paid tools add mention tracking, which shows whether AI answers actually name you over time. Both are useful, but in the right order. Paying to track mentions while AI crawlers are blocked from your site is money spent measuring a problem you could fix for free.
If you do need mention tracking later, Geolytic paid plans send your saved buyer questions to Gemini, an OpenAI model and Claude through their official APIs and record whether you are mentioned, where you appear in the answer and how often competitors are named. These are API answers rather than screenshots of the consumer apps, so they can differ from what a person sees. See pricing for the limits on each plan.
Common mistakes after running a check
- Fixing low impact warnings first while a crawler block stays in place.
- Adding structured data that describes things the page does not actually say.
- Treating a single AI answer as proof of ranking, good or bad.
- Running one check and never running another after making changes.
- Blocking every AI crawler out of caution, then wondering why AI assistants never mention you.
For agencies: use the free check as a door opener
If you run an SEO or marketing agency, a free AI visibility check is a strong way to start a conversation with a prospect. Run it before the first call, pick the one or two most serious findings and show the evidence. The free Pitch Audit runs a rapid three page scan built for this and lets you share a read only link with the prospect. Once they sign, a full GEO audit gives you the baseline for your work.
